IAN Long was pleased to see his side get back to winning ways following last night’s 3-2 victory over Goole AFC at The Beeches.

The former Tipton Town boss made several changes after the below par weekend performance against Rainworth and handed full League debuts to ‘keeper Paul Evans and recent signing Jamie King respectively.

Nigel Penney returned from illness to regain his place in the starting eleven with Ryan Winwood replacing Sam Williams, who suffered a shin injury during the weekend draw with the Nottinghamshire outfit.

A brace from Richard Huckfield and a rare strike from Luke Paskin saw Tivi’s defensive duo seal the points with prolific full-back Liam Schofield bagging two goals of his own in reply for the visitors.

And Long, who’s side travel to Lincolnshire this weekend to face bottom of the table Brigg Town was pleased with the response of his players having gone a goal down midway through the opening period.

He said “It was a great three points. I was disappointed with their opening goal from a defensive point of view – we should have defended the set-piece much, much better than we did.

“But we responded at the right time to level the score just before the break. We know how dangerous Richard Huckfield can be at the top end of the field and that was evident with his two goals last night.

“Once we’d taken the lead early in the second period, we grew in confidence and created several very good chances to extend our lead before Luke (Paskin) eventually put clear daylight between the two sides.”

Referee Neil Radford handed Goole a debatable penalty with 15 minutes to play which was emphatically finished by Liam Schofield, his second successful spot kick against Tivi in the past ten days.

Having reduced the deficit to a solitary goal at 3-2, Long was pleased with how his players defended the closing stages of the game to claim the three points.

“I thought the penalty was questionable, I have to say. But Schofield tucked it away and it made for a potentially nervous end to the game. We defended well and got over the finish line so credit to the players.”
