IAN Long said he was proud of his players following a ‘difficult week’ after the 2-1 victory at Carlton Town on Saturday.

Dale found themselves a goal down midway through the first half but Karl Edwards responded with a brace to take his personal tally to 19 goals in all competitions so far this season.

And Long, who now faces an agonising wait to see if Tivi’s Ground Grading appeal is upheld, was pleased with his side’s overall performance in Nottinghamshire on Saturday to remain in a comfortable eighth place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, Division One South.

He said “I thought we did very well, and on another day, we’d have scored more goals.

“Karl has been magnificent since the day he returned here and he should be pleased with his two goals.

“I’m proud of all my players and everyone connected with this club because it’s been a very difficult week with the ground grading conclusion reaching us.

“I know that Steven (Head of Communications) and Leon (Football General Manager) are working extremely hard with our appeal at the moment, and I hope that common sense prevails when the appeal takes place for the players first and foremost.

“We will continue to keep working, and I want the same application from the players in the reverse fixture tomorrow night.

“We deserve to be playing at this level. I defy anybody who would suggest otherwise, it’s clear to see how comfortable we are playing in the Evo-Stik Northern League, Division One South.”
