TIVIDALE Academy Under 14’s cruised to the Charity Cup with a fine 5-1 victory over Thimblemill at The Dell Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Dale found themselves 2-0 up after only 12 minutes, with the very impressive Josh Beasley opening their account direct from a free-kick.
Tivi raced into a 3-0 lead with Thimblemill reducing the deficit just before the break, but Keith Thompson’s side never look in any danger and added two second half goals, one of which was courtesy of forward, Daniel Danks.

After the game, Thompson said “The lads were terrific, and were very well supported, too. I’m proud of each and every single one of them, and they thoroughly deserved to win the game on the day.”

With Thimblemill sitting one place above Tivi in the Sdyfl Div 1, both teams looked up for the game and raring to go.Tividale lost the toss, so it was Thimblemill that got the game started but Tividale won the ball back and started to take control of the game in the middle of the park, shifting the ball on the deck with some neat passing.Tividale won a free-kick about 30 yards out, after just three minutes and Josh Beasley stepped up and his cross-cum-shot ended in the back of the net. 1-0 Tividale. The game restarted, and Tividale are quick to win the ball back, play it on the floor and start playing some neat football.Thimblemill were frustrated with this and start flying in with some aggressive challenges. Tividale seem very composed, and were working the ball from back to front after some good hassling by the forwards and confusion at the Thimblemill end, the ball is in the back of the net once more. 2-0 Tividale.Thimblemill were very shaken by Tividale’s early pressure, but still seem determined to get back into the game. But Cotton countered quickly after 20 minutes, running the length of the pitch and his neat run saw his resulting shot deflect to Sandu, who slotted the ball home. 3-0 inside 20 minutes. The game then goes a little congested with Tividale winning there fair share of 50/50 balls in the middle of the park, Rushton in the Tividale goal pulling two decent saves in the process.Thimblemill did pull one back after breaking down the left to leave the score 3-1 at the break.Tividale got the second half underway, and before the supporters had took there seats, Beasley fires the ball from 40 yards into the back of the net. 4-1!!!Any Tividale nerves were now settled, and they started playing the ball on the deck.
Tividale continued to win the 50/50 challenges, firm but fair, and were letting their football do the talking.Thimblemill cut a frustrated look in the closing stages with some rash challenges but the Tividale players kept their cool.Tividale continued to press, and Danks rounded the ‘keeper to make it 5-1 moments before the end to ensure Charity Cup Final glory for Keith Thompson’s side.
