SAM Williams has revealed the reasons behind his decision to remain with Tividale after Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division outfit Stourbridge made an official approach for his services.
The 27 year old, who first played for Tivi in 2005, remains a very popular member of the dressing room along with ‘Dale’s supporters and Williams wants to put the speculation over his future to one side and concentrate on his football between now and the end of the season.
He said “I was made aware of the interest from Stourbridge earlier this week and it’s always flattering when other clubs recognise your performances with your current employers. That’s the natural feeling for any footballer.
“Having said that, I really like it here. I get on with the manager (Ian Long) and the coaching staff extremely well and I’ve played here at Tividale for a long time.
“We have a great team ethic and the non-playing staff play a massive part. We’re all pulling in the right direction and I hope my decision to remain here will bring a close to the matter because it can become a distraction.
“It’s not just about me, either. My family like it here at Tividale, too – they’ve made many friends here over the years and that’s also very much part of my decision.
“We’ve been very successful on the pitch over the course of the past 18 months, had an extremely good first season at this level and with no disrespect to Stourbridge, I never really felt I could make the move away from this club.”
Williams is looking forward to returning to full fitness after suffering a shin injury in the 1-1 draw with Rainworth Miners Welfare a fortnight ago and the former Rushall Olympic ace hopes to be in the squad this coming Saturday against Brigg Town.
He added “It’s been frustrating the past two weeks. I sat on the bench on Tuesday night and knew from the outset it was highly unlikely that I would come on the field. It was only because Zac (Foster) was ill that I featured.
“I’m feeling good after training last night and as long as there’s no reaction today, I’ll be ready for our game tomorrow afternoon because we need to bounce back from our Walsall Senior Cup exit on Tuesday night.”
