Tividale FC 0-3 Walsall Wood FCFC

Walsall still have the wood on Tividale

In a game where for most of the match Tividale matched their visitors. Unfortunately in the end they fell short and it is Walsall Wood who move into the third round.

The half began with neither team able to take any real advantage and it was not until the 12th minute of the game when the first chance came. Walsall Wood’s centre back Ben Birch saw his towering header come back off the crossbar from a corner.  On 17 minutes Woods left back Steven Hayles then hit a pile driver from about 25 yards that flew wide.

Tividale’s first effort came in the 19th minute when Dan Smith played in Lewis McPike but his shot went straight into the midriff of Woods keeper Andy Hughes. A minute later on 20 minutes Woods took the lead when from a neat flick on by ex Tividale striker Karl Edwards. Romero Hutton volleyed past Luke Kriskinans.

Tividale finished the half the stronger but were unable to test Hughes. The best chance fell to Smith who was denied by a great block from Birch and McPike then Jacob Wedderburn both saw great crosses flash across the Wood’s goal with no Tividale player able to find that vital touch.

Tividale had the first effort of the half on 46 minutes when Nathan Jones maybe could have taken another touch before shooting and his chance went wide. A minute later Wood’s Drew Aiton shot wide after good work from Edwards.  On 50 minutes Smith tried to latch onto a through ball but Hughes was quick off his line and gathered the ball.

The game turned on the hour when Smith’s appeal for a penalty after he felt he had been brought down was turned down and the clearance fell to Hutton who’s cross into the Tividale box was met by Joey Butlin who made no mistake in shooting past Kriskinans.

The goal ended the game as a contest as with a two goal lead Wood were able to soak up any pressure that the home side threw at them and they added a third when Leon Taylor was left unmarked in the area and he fired home.
