Rugby Town FC 1-0 Tividale FC

Plenty of tries but no goals in this Rugby match

Tividale put up another game performance but still came away with a one nil defeat at Rugby
Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup.
In a game that neither side dominated at any point a Leigh Phillips goal on ten minutes was the
difference between the two sides.
Rugby started the better and Luke Kriskinans had to touch over a Lewis Rankin shot after just 6
minutes. Then former Tividale striker Chris Sterling could only find the side netting from an
acute angle a minute later.
The deadlock was broken though on 10 minutes when Jordan Wilson’s cross fell nicely for Phillips
to fire home. Rugby could have doubled their lead on 36 minutes when Wilson himself fired
over.
Tividale then came storming back and Rugby’s keeper Ben Heath did well to save a Dan Smith
effort on 38 minutes. Then Joe Bates went on a weaving run in the 40th minute but his final shot
went straight at Heath. Tividale came even closer in the last attack of the half when a Craig Stevens
effort came back off the bar from a Liam McPike corner.

The second half was a much quieter affair as neither side could fashion that decisive chance. On
the hour McPike left his marker Aaron Stringfellow for dead but his cross was headed wide by
Liam Smith. But again the home side had a great chance to extend the lead when a Lewis Rankin
free kick rattled the Tividale post. That was the last real threat on either goal and the rest of the
game just petered out as neither team really threatened.
