Shawbury United FC 2-0 Tividale FC
Tividale anything but Shaw in defeat![]()
After a string of decent performances, followers of Tividale must have had high hopes going into this clash against fellow strugglers Shawbury United. What happened over the 90 plus minutes of this match can only be described as disappointing.
In a game that had very little in goalmouth action the home side took the lead in literally the first chance of the game after 14 minutes when Josh Thomas fired home.
The rest of the half was not the most exciting of fayres and Tividale’s best chance fell to young Dan Smith when after a great run his shot was well saved by the feet of Shawbury keeper Nicholas Ashley. There was one moment of comedy gold when Shawbury skipper Stuart Ellis was unable to get out the way of a shot from one of his team mates and he stopped it on the Tividale goal line and then he tapped the ball over the line. Fortunately the assistant gave the obvious off side. But fair play to the Striker he saw the funny side of it
Half Time:-Shawbury United FC 1-0 Tividale FC
If anything the second half was even worse and the game never got going. The busiest man on the pitch was referee Mr Corbett who handed out a stream of bookings. I gave up counting at 6 or 7 but it could have been 9 or 10 and this in a game where I can only remember one booking for a really bad challenge.
On the football side Tividale’s Smith had one decent effort that he put wide while Shawbury always looked more likely to add to their score and in the end they did with 10 minutes to go when Ellis finished off a spell of Shawbury pressure shooting home from 8 yards. The goal ended the game as a contest and Shawbury ran out comfortable winners.
