 Quorn FC 1-2  Tividale FC

Nothing false in this Quorn win

Tividale used the disappointment of the midweek defeat at Loughborough as motivation for their first league away win since April 2015, when they defeated a Quorn side lying in 6th place in the league and the win also lifted themselves off the foot of the league.

Apart from a spell at the beginning of the second half, you would not have been able to tell which was the side riding high in the league and the team who had only gained one league win all season. The visitors completely dominated the first half and Daniel Smith’s impressive pressing nearly earned himself a goal after just 5 minutes, when he disposed Quorn defender Niall Mather but his shot came back off the post. On 14 minutes debutant Jake Heath then volleyed a Nathan Jones corner just wide and a minute later a Smith scissor kick found the back of the net but he was adjudged to be offside.

Tividale’s domination continued and Quorn were struggling to get out their own penalty area let alone half as the visitors were causing chaos in their backline and Smith’s shot on 17 minutes was palmed over by Quorn keeper Leighton Smith. From the resulting corner Tividale centre back Joe Hull headed over. Their domination brought the deserved reward on 26 minutes when a Lewis McPike cross found Nathan Jones at the back post and he fired past Smith.

It was after 40 minutes when the home side had there first chance when a James Jepson pass was played into James Hicks but the striker fired over. The home side had one last chance before half time when a Callum Thompson’s right wing corner was headed narrowly wide by Nathan Dale.

Half Time : Quorn FC 0-1  Tividale FC

Quorn started the second half much the better and after 47 minutes a Jepson free kick was well saved by Luke Kriskinans. Then on 55 minutes a Thompson corner was headed over by centre back Jimmy Brooks. Tividale had a great chance to double their lead on 62 minutes when Jones broke free from his marker but his shot was comfortably gathered by Smith. Smith then produced a fine save from his namesake.

The game was now becoming more stretched and on 70 minutes Tividale doubled their lead. From a corner Quorn failed to get any distance on the clearance and Lewis McPike was able to put the ball back into the box and Joe Hull rose to head home. The home side responded well and were again unlucky when a Thompson shot deflected onto the Tividale post.

On 85 minutes Quorn pulled one back in what turned out to be a consolation goal when Reece Medway’s cross was turned home by  Leavi Oshungbure. Tividale still looked good for another goal and the last piece of action in the game saw Jones fire wide after being put through by Smith.
