Tividale & Shepshed Dynamo players and the officials observe a minutes silence in memory of Daniel Wilkinson

Despite a much improved performance from Saturday at Malvern, Tividale still were looking for their first league win after this defeat.

Both teams started with a high pressing game and neither side were given the chance to carve out a decent opening. The first attack in anger fell to Shepshed in the 8th minute but Karl Whymark’s shot sailed high and wide. A minute later Tividale failed to clear a corner with any authority and from the clearance Ben Haseley tried a long range effort that Tividale keeper Luke Kriskinans saved comfortably.

The game carried on at breakneck speed with neither team gaining any meaningful possession and on 20 minutes Tividale had their best chance so far when a Jamie Potter effort was saved by Ben Gathercole in the Shepshed goal. The game swung back into Shepshed’s favour when Kriskinans pulled off a brilliant one handed save to deny Haseley from point blank range on 22 minutes. The livrly Haseley then won a foul on the edge of the box on 27 minutes and from the free kick Whymark rattled the cross bar.

Shepshed took the lead in unreal fashion when Whymark whipped in a cross from the right and it evaded everyone before going in at Krikinan’s far post. A minute later and the visitors looked like they may have given up their advantage when Gathercole brought down Charles Smith on the edge of the box and was shown what looked a harsh straight red

Tividale with the man advantage finished the half the stronger but could not conjure up an equaliser.

Half Time: Tividale FC 0-1 Shepshed Dynamo FC

Tividale brought on an extra striker Daniel Smith in place of Jordan Potter at the start of the second half and were much the brighter as they tried to make the extra man count and within 2 minutes of the re start Shane Grainger saw his goal bound strike deflect off a defender for a corner. From the resulting corner Wilson’s shot beat Betts but was then cleared off the line and a minute later substitute Smith possibly had more time when trying a first time shot and he never got it under control and it sailed wide. On 54 minutes Nathan Jones broke down the left, beat his man but his shot was deflected for a corner. From the corner taken by Lewis McPike on 55 minutes centre back Jacob Weddeburn rose and buried his header into the back of the net. A minute Liam Wilkinson had a shot that went wide.

From the resulting goal kick on 57 minutes Shepshed switched the play to wide right man Liam Hurst and helped by a slip by his marker Darragh Bustin, Hurst was able to get his cross in and it fell nicely to Haseley who swept the ball home.

The game now became an end to end affair as Tividale battled away in an attempt to get back into the game while Shepshed were happy to soak up whatever pressure Tividale exerted and still look dangerous on the counter attack. In the end that was the way it ended with Tividale still looking for that elusive first win.
