Chelmsley Town 3-1 Tividale

Tividale sent packing at the Meadow

It was refreshing of the Boss Dave King to hold his hand up for this defeat. But this Tividale squad, management, staff and supporters are one and we win together and lose together.

With five of the first team squad out including Lee Smith and Rion Francis-Mills on a stag weekend, Tom Hurdman at a wedding and Matt Hunt on holiday, the Boss had to make a number of changes. With Karl Gardner playing in a midfield holding role and the return of Freddie Watts in a back three.

Tividale started well enough but were a goal down on 5 minutes when Chemsley’s Jordan Wade cut in from the left flank and unleashed an unstoppable 30 yard right foot screamer that Tividale keeper Ryan Cheshire had no chance of getting a glove on. Two minutes later and the host’s doubled their lead. Tividale’s defence committed the ultimate error, when from a long clearance from Chelmsley Town keeper James Kelly they let the ball bounce in their penalty area, mistimed the second header and Jordan Hall picked up the loose ball and fired across Cheshire and into the bottom corner.

Tividale were now under the cosh and had it not been for Cheshire with a couple of smart saves, this game could have been wrapped up by the home side before half time. But Tividale hung on and in the end they grew into the game and ended the half the better side but could not find the goal to get them back in it and make a contest of it. With the best of the chances seeing Tyree Clarke foiled by an excellent double save by Kelly. Then on 40 minutes Kelly again foiled Clarke with an outstanding save. Flinging himself to his left to claw away the ball headding for tge top right hand corner to end the session.

Half Time:- Chelmsley Town 2-0 Tividale

The second half started as the first with Chelmsley piling on the pressure and the visitors fighting to stay in the contest, but fortunately they did not concede in this spell and Tividale again slowly grew into the game. Tividale’s first chance to reduce the errors came on 55 minutes, when a Tom Hurdman free kick was beaten away by Kelly.

Right on the hour mark and just as the visitors were applying the pressure, Chelmsley went 3-0 up. Again a Kelly ball upfield was not dealt with, and after some neat passes Wade was on hand to sweep home his second and Chelmsley’s third. Tividale’s luck now looked completely out especially when Chelmsley defender Sam Sadler did everything he could to turn the ball into his own net but he was saved by the post and Tividale’s sub Demetri Brown could not force home the rebound.

The game was now completely stretched as Tividale pressed forward but in doing this they left holes at the back and an Adam Keeley effort came crashing off the Tividale cross bar with Cheshire well beaten. Tividale did get their goal with 5 minutes to go when Brown was allowed to bring down a Bustin cross turn and place the ball into Kelly’s bottom right hand corner. Brown had another chance to reduce the arrears even more and set up a nervy finish but Brown could only shoot wide after being sent through.

In the end it is fair to say that Tividale never really recovered from that horror start and Chelmsey Town fully deserved their win.
