Wem Town 0-4 Tividale

Tividale are sharp in Shropshire

In the end Tividale ran out comfortable winners against a side whose performance on the day was a far cry from what their league position suggested.

With Matt Hunt joining Tyree Clarke on the long term injury list, Liam Wilkinson serving a one match ban and Jake Brigdale not recovering from the injury he picked up last Saturday. It was great to welcome Tom Hurdman back on the bench after returning to fitness after his operation.

There were four changes from the Wellington win. In came Karl Gardner, Ben Birch, Lee Smith and Dan Smith replacing Dan Bryson, Hunt, Wilkinson and Brigdale.

Unusually for Tividale it was a really sluggish start from the visitors and a mistake by Birch allowed Dylan Hillier through on goal after just 10 minutes but his shot was deflected wide by Gardner. Tividale’s first effort on goal was after 15 minutes Reece Shilvock’s ball set Dan Smith away but he could not find the target after being put under pressure by Wem full back George Parton. Shilvock then released Demetri Brown with another great pass but the frontman fired his shot across Wem keeper Harry Chandler and wide of the post. Wem’s second chance came again courtesy of a Tividale error. A misplaced Shilvock pass on 24 minutes was intercepted by Jack Orbell and his shot from 35 yards had Ryan Cheshire back peddling before touching the ball over his cross bar.

Tividale took the lead on 27 minutes. Birch found Brad Welding out on the right flank. The wing back cut inside and beat Parton before shooting past Chandler at his near post and although the keeper got a hand to it he could not keep out the shot. A minute later and it was two nil. Curtis Cockings ball into the box was met by Callum Briscoe but the ball skimmed off the top of his head and completely wrong footed the rest of his back line, leaving Brown one and one with Chandler and he coolly flicked the ball past him and strolled the ball into an empty net.

On 40 minutes Lee Smith found namesake Dan with another defence splitting pass but again the striker was unable to convert the chance as his effort was blocked by Chandler.

Half Time: Wem Town 0-2 Tividale

Wem again started the second period the better and had a great chance to cut the deficit after just 49 minutes when Rhys Mellings broke down the left on a counter attack and with Tividale’s defence trying to get back he played the ball into Jim Astley but he shot wide of Cheshire’s far post. Wem had another chance on 57 minutes when Harry Astley tried an effort that was well saved by Cheshire.

Shilvock saw his effort in the 67th minute just clear the bar after some great work down the left by Darragh Bustin and Dan Smith. Welding was nearly on the score sheet again but his shot was blocked by Chandler and then cleared.

The visitors were now in complete charge as the game moved into the closing stages and Cocking tried a couple of long range efforts that went wide and another one that was deflected for a corner by Wem defender Matthew Hodgson.

Tividale ended the game as a contest on 78 minutes. A Shilvock free kick was headed home by Lee Smith. With 5 minutes to go Tividale made it four. Substitute Elliott Hartley went down under a tired challenge by Hodgson in the penalty area and Hartley got up to score even though Chandler got his hand to it.
