Wonder goal and Ton up Wonder brace. See off Wenny

After a very difficult first 30 minutes, where Tividale were really tested and were fortunate not to be behind. An absolute worldy got them back on track and then a brace from Dan Smith making his 100th appearance made it a fairly comfortable afternoons work.

With the visitors fielding two experienced forwards in ex Wolves Casual’s Mark Habbershaw and ex Shifnal Town’s Kyle Montague. Manager Dave King opted for a back three of Dan Bryson, Ben Birch and Karl Gardner, Freddie Watts missing out this time. In midfield Lee Smith was brought in at the expense of Reece Shilvock and Ryan Cheshire was back in between the sticks. The rest of the starting line up was the same as the one that started in the defeat by Sutton Coldfield Town on Wednesday night.

It was actually Tividale who had the first real chance after a cagey start from both sides when on 6 minutes a Darragh Bustin pass found Demetri Brown but Wednesfield keeper Kalem Betts was quickly off his line to save.

Wednesfield had a great chance to go ahead when Montague beat Tividale’s offside trap but his shot hit the base of the post and went wide. On 16 minutes they then had the ball in the back of Tividale’s net. This time Montague’s lob found the back of Cheshire’s net but he was adjudged to be offside. Harry Cunningham then also had a chance on 24 minutes from a free kick on the edge of the Tividale box but he hit it well wide of Cheshire’s post.

On 30 minutes Tividale literally went ahead from nowhere. A Liam Wilkinson shot was charged down by Wednesfield’s Brad Sharman. Brad Welding was the first to react to the loose ball and he cut inside his marker Jammal Pinnock from the left flank and from edge of the Wednesfield area curled an absolute screamer into the top left hand corner.

The goal completely deflated the visitors and on 39 minutes Wilkinson swept the ball out to Bustin and his low cross evaded Betts and Dan Smith was there to sweep the ball home at the back post. 4 minutes later and it was 3-0. Hesitancy in the Wednesfield defence allowed Smith to get in again and this time he finished clinically with a shot across Betts and into the far corner of the net.

Right on the stroke of half time Wednesfield may count themselves lucky that Betts received a yellow card and was not sent off after bringing down Brown on the edge of the box. But the referee Joshua Brookland felt that a Wednesfield defender would have got back so saving the keeper a straight red.

Half Time:- Tividale 3-0 Wednesfield

For all intents and purposes the game was now over but Wednesfield should have got on the score sheet when after a penalty area melee in the 49th minute Montague somehow put the ball over the bar. From then on Tividale were able to control the tempo of the game as the visitors tried to get a foothold in the game. But that became a mountain to climb when Montague was shown a straight red after a coming together with Bryson. A minute later and it was 4-0 when Craig Radford under pressure from Demetri Brown somehow lobbed his keeper from the left hand edge of the box.

Tividale’s substitute Elliott Hartley found the by-line on 76 minutes and cut the ball back for Welding but he could not find the finish of the first half and skied the ball over the bar. It was 5-0 in the 79th minutes when Dan Smith went on a slalom of a run and he fired in a cross that was touched home by either Wednesfield defender Ben Perks or Tividale’s Demetri Brown. Brown claimed it and Perks did not want it.

On 84 minutes Bustin shot straight into the midriff of Betts and on 86 minutes Hartley was also denied by Betts, the keeper this time anticipating Hartley’s chip when he was one on one with the keeper.

Wednesfield went down to 9 men in injury time when after a scuffle in the middle of the park Tividale’s Welding and the visitors Radford were both booked. Unfortunately for Radford it was his second yellow and so was dismissed.
