Tividale badgered into defeat
After last weeks heroics. This was a case of after the Lord Mayors Show as Tividale tumbled out of this years FA Vase at the first stage.
Tividale were just not at the races and this defeat could have been heavier but for another great performance from goalkeeper Ryan Cheshire.
After a shaky start Tividale were almost in trouble as early as the 6th minute when Brocton was gifted a free kick after some sloppy defensive play on the edge of their own penalty area but the visitors wasted the chance. Tividale’s first chance came on 10 minutes when Darragh Bustin found himself in more space than he thought and snatched at a shot in the end blazing it over the bar. Then a Karl Gardner free kick was also put over the bar this time via the head of Chris Bladen.
Apart from those couple of forays Brocton were the more lively of the two sides and Joe Hartshorne was causing the Tividale defence all sorts of problems and Dan Wells did well to get a block on his shot on 15 minutes. Cheshire then somehow saved a Paul McMahon effort from point blank range. Brocton were now creating chances at will and on 32 minutes McMahon again somehow missed the target when he was put through by Dan Lomas with the goal’s at his mercy.
On 35 minutes Tividale were forced into a change when Liam Wilkinson had to be carried off with an ankle ligament injury and was replaced by Elliott Hartley and it was Tividale who had the final chance of the half when from a Joe Lawley free kick Freddie Watts fired wide.
Half-time: Tividale 0-0 Brocton
Brocton were straight back at it at the beginning of the second half and again Cheshire did well saving with his feet from McMahon. But as poor as Tividale were in open play they were still looking a threat from set pieces and on 55 minutes Wells just could not get his shot on target after Bladen had headed on a Hartley corner.
Brocton took the lead on 62 minutes when McMahon was able to get in the penalty box unchallenged and gave Cheshire no chance with his shot. On 70 minute it was 2-0, this time a ball down the middle from Brocton keeper Adam Jenkins was headed on by Lomas and Hartshone was first to react and he picked his spot with a neat finish.
With the game as good as over Tividale then had their best spell but they never realty tested Jenkins or the Brocton defence and in the end the visitors deservedly move into the next round of the FA Vase.
