Tividale 1 – 1 Highgate United
New look Tividale battle to replay
Tividale started their 2017/2018 season with an encouraging performance and a hard fought draw against an experienced and very good Highgate United side
Dave King’s side came into this game on the back of a good pre season and so were not lacking in confidence in what would be a tough afternoon against their higher league opponents. There were debuts for goalkeeper Ryan Cheshire, defenders Daniels Bryson and Daniel Wells. Liam Wilkinson, Curtis Cocking and Joe Lawley in midfield and Tyree Clarke in attack.
The visitors started the game much the better and Tividale had all hands to the pump in the opening minutes as they defended resolutely, but a Connor Mooney volley from an Aaron Brown nod down that went just wide was their best chance of many.
It was Tividale who took the lead in what was their first real chance of the game. Daniel Smith was left unmarked and he latched onto a through ball and fired past Highgate keeper James Behan.
Highgate were immediately back on the offensive, Isaac Jagroop had a shot well saved by Cheshire. and the dangerous Brown had an effort cleared off the line.
Tividale had a golden chance to extend their lead when a mistake from Behan let in Smith, but with the angle narrowing he could only shoot wide of the keepers far post.
Against opposition of this calibre you have to take what chances you get as you will be punished and 60 seconds later Tividale were punished. Marco Addagio was brought down in the box by Tom Hurdman and Jagroop made no mistake from the spot. For the rest of the half it was business as usual with Highgate threatening with Brown, Jagroop and Addagio leading the forward charge but Tividale defending and looking dangerous on the counter. Behan had to get down smartly to save a Smith effort from point blank. Mooney then had another chance for the visitors that was off target just before the break
Half Time:-Tividale 1 v 1 Highgate United
The second half started as the first did with Tividale’s defence defending manfully and when they were breached Cheshire was on hand to clear any danger. As the game wore on it became more even and the chances were now coming very rare. Behan did well under pressure to clear a Lawley free kick and Jagroop again shot wide for the visitors. Cheshire then pulled off the save of the game when he dived full length to palm a Karl King effort from 25 yards over the bar.
Highgate had a great chance to snatch the winner in the 89th minute when a Brown free kick came back off the bar and Tividale’s defence were able to sweep the ball clear from Adaggio before he could get the rebound under control.
