THE FACTS
West Midland Regional League
Tividale FC v Wem Town FC
Saturday 6th April 2019
Kick off at 3.00pm
This weekend we welcome the last of this season’s new teams to The Beeches, Wem Town. And we hope The Beeches is as welcoming as our visitors were when we visited them back in November.
After the disappointment of not getting all the three points against Dudley Sports two weeks ago and not having a game last weekend. We were resigned to conceding the leadership to Haughmond but at last we would have played the same amount of games as our rivals and one less than Wolves Casuals.
So it was a pleasant surprise when Haughmond drew with Pershore and Dudley Town all but ended Casuals chance of a top two finish when beating them 3-1.
Our visitors have not had a great first season in this league but come to The Beeches on the back of a 2-1 win against Bewdley Town. A win that has kept their survival chances alive.
THE HISTORY
The game in November was the first time we had ever met Wem Town, although we had played their former tenant Shawbury United at their Butler Sports Centre Ground many times over the years.
In the end the 4-0 win looked comfortable on paper but it was far from it. The visitors had the better of the first 27 minutes but two goals in a minute put the game beyond the visitors. First a Brad Welding strike against the run of play then a unlucky deflection let in Demetri Brown to put the visitors 2-0 up at half time. again Wem, put up a fight at the beginning of the second half but goals from Lee Smith and an Elliott Hartley penalty wrapped up the points.
