THE FACTS
West Midland Regional League
Tividale FC v Shifnal Town FC
Saturday 16th March 2019
Kick off at 3.00pm
This is a week we at Tividale FC could have well done without. After last Saturday’s defeat at Wellington we woke up on Sunday morning to the news that Tividale football’s last pioneer and one of our staunchest ambassador’s, contributors, supporters and honorary life member Harry Shaw had passed away at the age of 94.
There will be more about Harry written over the next week and due to his families commitments this weekend. We will have a full tribute to him at our home game against Dudley Sports on Saturday 23rd March 2019.
We will also not dwell on last week’s result, only to say that for the first time since the first few weeks of the season the title is no longer in our own hands. So everyone at Tividale FC knows the importance of this weekends game against a side whose league position in no way reflects how good they can be as a side.
Our visitors arrive at The Beeches on the back of 4 straight defeats but apart from a 3-0 defeat against Haughmond (and remember Haughmond beat us not long ago 4-0) all the others have been by the odd goal. Now added to this there is the fact that after 30 games and only 28 points attained they have a goal difference of -10. It shows that they are always in games.
THE HISTORY
Our away fixture against Shifnal back in October ended in a comfortable 5-0 win with Demetri Brown netting an hat trick, Darragh Bustin smashing home a free kick and one from Rion Francis Mills.
At the end of the 2017-2018 season when Tividale were trying to chase down Wolverhampton Sporting for the title and playing 4 games a week Tividale suffered what at the time was a shock 3-0 defeat at Shifnal on a Thursday night. But our hosts admitted they were helped out by a number of players from a higher level and some personnel from RAF Cosford. Goals from Kirk Watson, Will Wells and Jonathon Wilkes as good as ended Tividale’s title challenge.
The home fixture in November 2017 ended with a comprehensive Tividale 6-1 win. two goals each for Demetri and Tyree Clarke, Darragfh and Liam Wilkinson were on the score sheet for Tividale after George Williams had levelled for the visitors.
