Isn’t it great when you get to the time of the football season when you hope the winter bad weather is behind us and it is a gloves and scarves less Saturday afternoons (apart from the players of course) and you are nearing the chance to reach cup final’s. On Wednesday 27th Tividale entertain Midland Football League (MFL) side Chelmsley Town in the semi final of the Birmingham Floodlit Cup and the chance to meet either (MFL) side Atherstone or Dudley Sports in the final.
After a couple of tough league fixtures were we have had to put a shift in for those vital points this game will be a welcome relief to the vigour’s of league football. Don’t get us wrong Tividale will be going all out to win this game not only because it is a chance of silverware and that is why we are all here but also there is the little matter of a 3-1 FA Vase defeat against our visitors in September
THE HISTORY
This is our 3rd cup meeting in the last 15 months and the score at the moment is 1-1. We first met in the first round of last season’s floodlit cup competition here at The Beeches on a freezing December night in 2017 and we went through with a 2-1 win. Goals from Demetri Brown and Joe Lawley each side of half time sent us 2-0 up before Ross Casey scored an injury time consolation for the visitors.
This season we met at Pack Maeadow in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Vase on a lovely September afternoon. The game will be remembered for Chelmsley’s Jordan Wade’s 30 yard opener after just 5 minutes. When Jordan Hall made it 2-0 after 7 minutes Tividale were in trouble and had it not been for Ryan Cheshire with a couple of smart saves, this game could have been wrapped up by the home side before half time. Wade made it 3-0 before Demetri Brown reduced the arrears. But Tividale were well beaten on that afternoon.
