Division 2

Tividale FC 5-4 Wolverhampton United

The first game of the season saw us at home to Wolverhampton United fresh from their opening day victory against Tipton Youth last week. These were tipped before a ball was kicked to be huge favourites for the division championship so we knew it would be a hard test.

We set up to exploit their slow fullbacks and looked to use the wide players as an outlet whenever we could and from this we got joy all day racing into a 2-0 lead, goals from Kennedy and Declan. However, each time we scored we seemed to give away a soft goal to let our opponents back into the game.

HT: Tividale FC 2-2 Wolverhampton United

At HT we spoke about work rate as it was clear the midfield needed to improve. We talked about what we needed to do to go on and win this game and we went out for the second half with a clear job in mind.

The team talk seemed to have worked wonders with the midfield as their work rate was fantastic after the break. This was also assisted by the arrival of Lewis at the start of the second half.

Declan soon slotted in a rob cut back to make it 3-2 but no sooner than the third goal had gone in we conceded a penalty.  It looked to be settling for a draw when Cordell was fouled in the box and he slotted the rebound from Declan’s missed penalty. However disaster struck again as we gave away a third penalty in the 92nd minute which was slotted home to make it 4-4.

The last kick of the game saw their keeper mis-kick a hurried clearance which landed to Bobbie who ran through on goal and slotted it home to secure all 3 points.

FT: Tividale FC 5-4 Wolverhampton United

This was a special 3 points and I would like to say how well the boys played for 90 minutes and remained professional throughout to see out the game the resilience of this team will get us a lot of points. However from a defensive point of view we need to me resolute and be hard to break down as our young star goalkeeper Reiss Jeavons kept us in it on a few occasions today.

I would just like to thank all the fans who came down today for the first game of the season

We will now go away and work on our defensive shape ahead of Saturday’s visit of Warstone Wanderers who look like clear favourites with a +7 goal difference in 2 game. We know it will be a hard test but I am sure the team will be ready for it.
