PHIL Male claims the pressure is all on visitors Stourbridge in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie at The Beeches tomorrow afternoon, sponsored by Emirates (KO 15:00).
Dale disposed of Hanley Town in the Preliminary Round by a solitary goal two weeks ago and Male believes his players have nothing to fear when they take to the field against Gary Hackett’s side.
“All the pressure is on Stourbridge, even though we are playing at home,” said the 36-year-old former Sutton Coldfield defender.
“Stourbridge have had great experiences of the FA Cup down the years, most notably their Live TV victory over Plymouth Argyle a few seasons ago.
“Gary (Hackett) will know that Stourbridge fans will expect to win this game.”
Although Stourbridge are favourites ahead of the tie, Male insists Tivi can pull off a shock result of the round and progress to the Second Qualifying stage.
“We have good players, have nothing to lose on the day. It’s a ‘win win’ situation for us.
“Our players can relax, enjoy the game and take the game to Stourbridge. It’s an opportunity for the players to make a name for themselves, particularly as it’s a Black Country Derby against higher opposition.”
A bumper crowd is expected at The Beeches and Male, fondly known as ‘Spiller’, believes it’s an opportunity that Dale can grasp with both hands.
“It will be a great occasion, a big crowd, and a day for us to enjoy as a Club.
“Listen, the financial reward from this game is fantastic whatever the outcome, but we want to win the game and move on to the next stage of what is the best cup competition on the planet.”
