MANAGER Ian Long was pleased with the performance of his team following last night’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Carlton Town at The Beeches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, Division One South.
Tivi started the game on the front foot, creating several opportunities before taking a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute through Danny Ashton with Karl Edwards doubling Dale’s advantage on the stroke of half-time.
David Bellis sealed the points for Long’s men three minutes from time with a stunning 25 yard effort, and the former Tipton Town boss was satisfied with his players after two games in four days against their Nottinghamshire counterparts.
Speaking with @TiviFCofficial after the game, Long said “It was a pleasing three points, and I thought we played some very good football at times, particularly in the opening period.
“It almost had the feel of an end of the season game, and both sides were guilty at times of affording their opponents too much time on the ball.
“We started on the front foot, and it was a terrific goal by Danny to put us in front. In fact, all three goals were excellent for different reasons. Zac’s (Foster) cross for Karl was great and I don’t think Dave Bellis will strike one like that again!!!!!
“It’s always difficult when you play the same opposition in a short space of time but I think we’ve handled the situation very well and to take maximum points is what we were looking for.
“We’ve a very tough trip to Gresley on Saturday, and we will have one or two missing through injury and unavailability.
“They need to win the game to stay in contention for a play-off place. But, like with Mickleover last week, we will be going there to win the game.”
Long was also complimentary of his players’ attitude following the devastating news last week about the club’s application for Ground Grading (Grade D Specification) having been rejected.
A selected panel of Tividale Club officials will attend the appeal hearing at Wembley Stadium scheduled for next Tuesday and the Tivi boss can’t speak highly enough of his squad.
“The players have responded magnificently, and it’s no more than I expected. They are a terrific group and they respect the situation our club currently finds itself in.
“My players have been ultimate professionals since the day I walked through the door, and that will never change.”
