Who are your favourite 80’s group? One of mine is A-ha.

You may recall one of their songs? No, not Take On Me, but another one of their hits called ‘The Sun Always Shines On TV’.

There was a time that whenever I heard the record played, I’d change TV to Tivi (See what I did there?). Not anymore!

The good old Black Country weather has being doing its utmost to make our lives as difficult as possible here at Tividale Football & Social Club over the past seven days, and succeeded with flying colours.

Our game with Goole AFC was postponed on Saturday by referee Eddie Smart. Keep that name in your memory bank for a moment or two.

It was disappointing that the game was postponed on Saturday morning, the weather improved as the day progressed.

But, with the journey Goole had to make from North Lincolnshire, the decision had to be made early doors and I’m sure all parties would agree that the most sensible decision was reached given the circumstances.

Anyway, back to Eddie Smart.

Eddie was our match referee on Tuesday night against Romulus, you may recall? Anyhow, our Eddie had a busy weekend, and managed to upset one of our committee members in the process! (Well done, Eddie :0).

Having inspected our playing surface on Saturday morning, Eddie was Assistant Referee of the Barclays Premier League game between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United on Sunday Afternoon at White Hart Lane.

See the connection yet? No? Here goes.

Our Club Treasurer, Richard Harrison, is an avid Hammers fan! They were 2-0 up at Spurs’ – everything was right with the world!

Then Spurs get one back. They are then awarded a penalty in stoppage-time. Assistant Referee on the touchline? Correct – Eddie Smart.

Great to see Mr. Harrison looking so gloomy on Sunday afternoon before quietly leaving at 3pm!!!

Back to Tuesday, and what a great victory for us against Romulus. Much appreciation goes to the volunteers who attended on the afternoon to ensure the game went ahead.

As Ian Long said pre-match, it was always going to be a tough game. First half was evenly matched although we’d taken an early lead but in the second half I thought the lads were terrific. A deserved three points, for sure.

Off the field, we’ve released details this week of ‘SHOWDOWN SATURDAY’, taking place on Saturday, March 7th.

Reduced drinks prices for members whilst Tividale are in action against Rainworth Miners Welfare (KO 15:00) and the FA Cup Quarter-Final between Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion Live on BBC One afterwards (K0 17:30).

One member of the club, who will remain nameless shouted to me the other day “Oi, Steven, who are the Albion playing in the FA Cup?”………

I hope he wasn’t being serious!!

It would be great to see you all down here next weekend and we have some brilliant Entertainment from 20:00 as ‘TIVIDALE PRESENTS’ female vocalist, Emily.

We will be bringing you details in the coming days on the return of Bingo to a Sunday night!

Eyes down, Look in and all that 🙂

See you at the bar, Submariners!

Steven.
