Lye Town FC 2-1 Tividale FC
Lye up to deliver last minute Boxing day KO
It was a great performance from the visitors but it was to no avail. As a last minute strike turned the game on it’s head and Tividale came away with nothing.
The first half was not the greatest of fayre’s with both defences well on top and neither side could put together a decent passage of play but the visitors just shaded it with the amount of chances created. While Lye may feel that they had the better ones. Tividale’s Dan Smith could have done better when a couple of times he got the better of his marker but he never tested Dean Coleman in the Lye goal. Liam Smith also had an effort from distance that Coleman watched go by.
At the other end Ben Billingham tested Tividale keeper Luke Kriskinans and Jack Till would have expected to finish the one decent chance he had. But the half finished goalless.
Half Time :- Lye Town FC 0-0 Tividale FC
The second half was significantly better as a spectacle and the game burst into life on 63 minutes when Dan Smith was brought down in the box and Lewis McPike who had only come on as a substitute 3 minutes earlier fired home from the spot despite Coleman getting a hand to it.
Tividale held the lead for just 6 minutes. And what an equaliser!! Billingham showed his prowess in front of goal with a half volley from outside the box that curled and dipped, giving Kriskinans no chance at all. Tividale then had a great chance to regain their lead when Smith beat the keeper with a chip but there was not enough power in his effort to get into the net and a Lye defender was able to clear it off the line.
The reprieve was possibly the break Lye needed as they finished the game much the stronger led by their substitutes. And it was a combination of the two, James Spray and Scott Gennard that earned them the win. Spray’s cross finding Gennard who turned the ball home.
So as with the home game against Sporting Khalsa a few weeks ago. Tividale just could not hold out to gain at least a point against one of the title chasers.
