Tividale FC 3-2 Quorn FC
It’s Quorn at the double
Tividale produced a barnstorming second half performance after an unusual tactical change to turn this game on it’s head to complete the league double over Quorn this season and yet they still had to win it twice in a thriller at The Beeches.
After an even and chanceless first 13 minutes. The visitors took the lead when to the amazement of many in the ground referee Joshua Brookland awarded the visitors a penalty. To be fair the man in the middle indicated that it was an off the ball incident later but it still made his decision no clearer. Nathan Dale stepped up and despite keeper Luke Kriskinans getting a hand to the spot kick he could not keep the ball out. Tividale’s Jacob Wedderburn had the home sides first effort on goal, meeting Darragh Bustins corner with a firm header that Quorn keeper Leighton Smith saved. On the half hour Kriskinans had to be sharpish off his line to deny Quorn skipper Leavi Oshungburge.
Smith then produced a brilliant save on 37 minutes to deny Dan Smith after some great work from Bustin. Two minutes later it was Quorn’s turn to have a go when Dale tried to lob Kriskinans but he cleared the cross bar as well. With half time looming a Craig Stevens shot brought off another great save from Leighton Smith.
Half Time :- Tividale FC 0-1 Quorn FC
Tividale boss Dave King then made a couple of adjustments at the half way stage, going for more power down the flanks by swapping the two full backs Wedderburn and Lewis Probert for the two wide men Tom Hurdman and Bustin. and it almost brought instance results. Jamie Hunt’s neat chip beat keeper Smith but it was cleared off the line by a defender and Probert’s follow up shot was also cleared off the line. With Tividale now in total control Dan Smith was denied by a tremendous piece of defending by Quorn’s Simon Alcott.
Tividale deservedly drew level on 52 minutes when Liam Smith attacked the visitors defence played in Hunt who made no mistake with his shot. A minute later after more good work from the home side Jimmy Brooks deflection just spun past Smith’s left hand post. Probert was having a field day down the left flank and Smith had to be at his best to keep him out on 55 minutes and then a couple of minutes later watched another Probert effort fizz over the bar. Tividale took the lead on 59 minutes when Bustin overlapped Probert and his low cross was tapped home by Dan Smith. Tividale had a great chance to extend their lead on 83 minutes when Tividale sub Lewis McPike played in Dan Smith but with Probert open in the middle of the box Smith tried the shot and it came back off the base of the post.
The missed chance immediately became a double whammy as Quorn went straight up the field with a long ball and Quorn sub Reuben Asamoah finished in style. It looked for all the world that the home side had thrown away two points. But these lad’s just keep battling to the end and with a minute left of normal time Dan Smith had a great chance to seal the winner but his shot was parried by his namesake into the path of the second Tividale sub 16year old Jake Brigdale and he bundled the ball over the line with his first touch of the ball to give the home side the three points.
