Long Eaton United FC 2-0 Tividale FC
Another long afternoon for no reward
Once again Tividale came away second best from a game that they looked comfortable in at the start. But once again after going behind you could see the confidence drain from them.
Although the first bit of goalmouth action did not occur until 10 minutes into the game, it was a decent start from Tividale who looked good while in possession of the ball. The warning signs were there though when Eaton’s Nialle Rodney gets through much too easily on goal and it took a tremendous last ditch tackle by Jacob Wedderburn to deny him.
On 16 minutes Tividale’s Charles Wilson saw his shot saved by Eaton keeper Oliver Cammidge. A minute later back came Eaton and this time it was Rodney’s strike partner Kevin Hemagou who saw his effort saved by Luke Kriskinans. A couple of minutes later a Lewis McPike corner swung over to the back post was met by Luke Morris but he could not keep his shot down.
Long Eaton took the lead on 21 minutes when Michael Towey was allowed too much room down the right and too much time to whip in his cross and an unmarked Jerome O’Connor comes across the front of the Tividale defence and half volley’s past Kriskinans.
The goal threatened to open the floodgates as the visitors fell apart and somehow they avoided conceding a second straight from the restart when O’Conner shot straight into the grateful arms of Kriskinans when looking odds on to score. Rodney then had a header comfortably saved by the Tividale keeper.
Tividale did have a chance of pulling one back on the stroke of half time when the hardworking Wilson latched onto a Morris through ball but he could not find any power in his shot and Cammidge collected.
Half Time: Half Time: Long Eaton United FC 1-0 Tividale FC
The second half began with Eaton’s Paulo Piliero getting down the right and playing in Rodney but Kriskinans was equal to his shot but his parry fell to Rodney again but he was thwarted again by the keeper who turned this effort away for a corner.
On 55 minutes Eaton did double their lead. Again Tividale allow Eaton’s wide men too much time and space and this time it was O’Connor who benefited and his cross goes all the way across the Tividale 6 yard box to the unmarked Rodney at the back post and he had time to control the ball, pick his spot and give Kriskinans no chance with the finish. Rodney then saw another chance go begging on the hour when Tividale’s Freddie Watts deflects his shot for a corner. O’Connor then saw a sublime chip just clear Kriskinans cross bar and Hemagou shot straight at Kriskinans after Eaton sub Tom Marshall is also allowed to run unchallenged into the heart of the Tividale defence and play him in.
Tividale did finish on a high when first of all a header from either Weddrburn or Watts goes straight at Cammidge from a Jamie Hunt corner and then Wilson hits the side netting from a Tividale throw. But it was all too little too late and the points stayed in Long Eaton
