Helllooo and welcome to this week’s edition of From Communications Corner!

Dear fellow non league clubs,

This content is subject to copyright (no, I won’t go there)….

It’s okay, I’m a little ticked off this morning but you lovely lot will make my day by reading this, no doubt 🙂

So, how’re you? It’s been a long week, but a strange one at the same time. Do you suffer from the same problem as me when it’s Bank Holiday Monday? It takes me a week to work out what day it is again.

Well on the pitch it was a weekend of mixed emotions, wasn’t it? Saturday was great, beating Hanley Town 1-0 to progress from the preliminary stage of the FA Cup. Hanley battled hard, particularly in the second half, and we had to remain composed to see the game through.

Great credit to the North West Counties side, they gave it a real go but I always felt we had that extra bit of quality in the final third and, on another day, we could have won by two, possibly three goals rather than the solitary strike by Chris Sterling.

Chris is a great lad, knows the level of football we are playing and will be a big player for us this season.

The draw is also exciting for us as we entertain Stourbridge at The Beeches on Saturday, September 12th, and we are anticipating a large crowd on the day. I don’t really want to talk about that game too much, though, as we have two extremely important league fixtures at home on Saturday and Tuesday respectively.

We’re reducing admission on Saturday for season ticket holders of West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers as part of the non league weekend.

I’m pleased to report that both Tom Turner and Jacob Barnes are okay following last weekend’s collision, by the way. Tom travelled with us to Mark Drayton on Monday alongside the injured Chris Rabone. It was good to see him up and about but did you notice how he ended up with the female physio on Saturday?

I tell you, that boy knows what he’s up to 🙂

Obviously the result was disappointing on Monday but, again, on another day we could have been two up before their first goal from the set piece. We need to put it behind us, learn from our mistakes, work hard in training and focus on picking up points again.

Off the field and there’s still nothing to add to the Richard Harrison ‘Roll of Honnnooouur’, Dave Evans seems to be behaving himself and Leon is, well, Leon….

Thanks to DJ cum football coach Lloyd McCormack for providing the entertainment Sunday evening. I hear we have some Karaoke singers in the Club? Okay, maybe not 🙂

Talking of singers, and the lovely Jess Bolas returns to the Social Club this Saturday evening from 20:00. I know Jess well, she’s a friend of mine and a terrific talent. There was a time she dressed up as a Fox when she worked at John Fowler Holidays in Cornwall (but that’s a secret, yeah?)

Look after her in my absence, won’t you? I’m off to the lovely Silverstone this weekend for World Series by Renault.

See you at the bar, Submariners!

Steven.
