STRIKER Demetri Brown is looking for Tivi’s first points of the new season in tonight’s EVO-STIK Northern Premier League, Division One South trip to The Aspire Stadium to face Staffordshire counterparts Newcastle Town (KO 19:45).
Brown completed 78 minutes of Saturday’s opening day defeat to Shaw Lane Aquaforce before being replaced by Scott Devlin, and has called on his teammates to bring at least a point home to the Black Country from this evening’s game.
He said: “It was tough on Saturday (to concede late on) but it’s how you respond to it that counts. Shaw Lane played very well and I don’t think anybody would have denied them a point but to concede the second one was a real, real blow.
“Ash (Jackson) had an opportunity to make it 2-0 but great credit to the defender, he did very well. Ash did everything right and those are the fine lines that define football matches at this level.
“We need to show more concentration as a collective group than we did on Saturday and we need to learn quickly.”
But the former Sutton Coldfield Town forward insists there were plenty of positive aspects of Dale’s game to be taken moving forward, adding: “I thought we looked dangerous at times, especially in the second half.
“As I said, Ash had an opportunity, I had an effort over the crossbar and Chris (Rabone) did really well for the goal. When the chances come along we have to take them and let’s hope we will get some opportunities this evening.
“A point would be a great result, as Newcastle is a difficult place to go, but they conceded on three occasions on Saturday and maybe that’s an area we need to look to exploit.”
