- THE FACTS
West Midland Regional League
Wellington FC v Tividale FC
Saturday 9th March 2019
Kick off at 3.00pm
Tividale are back on the road for this West Midland Regional fixture and it takes us to Wellington, in Herefordshire, So it’s another coach trip for us.
Last weekend we gained another vital three points in our quest for promotion, especially with second placed Haughmond beating third placed Wolves Casuals.
This weekends hosts are one of our favourite clubs to visit as we always get a warm welcome down there. At the moment they sit in mid table and are on a run of only one league defeat in their last 6 league games and that was against high flying Wednesfield. Their last couple of games have ended in draws against AFC Bridgnorth and Cradley Town. So once again we are under no illusions of the task ahead of us.
THE HISTORY
We have had many battles with Wellington, but over the last couple of seasons since we were back in the WMRL we have had the better of the exchanges
This is the reverse fixture as we met at the beginning of November at The Beeches in a game that although we ran out 3-1 winners, the visitors were the better side for much of the game and it was two goals from Elliott Hartley and a Brad Welding wind assisted free kick that took the points with Stuart Davies replying for Wellington.
The 2017-18 season saw Tividale win 4-2 at The Beeches, and again Wellington started the better and went into a deserved lead through Luke Griffiths. But two Joe Lawley goals in 4 minutes, the first from the spot and the second a rasping drive from the edge of the box put the home side 2-1 up at half time. In the second half Lawley completed his hat trick with a superb free kick before Wellington’s Paul Jones scored from the spot. Tividale’s Nathan Jones ended the scoring when he volleyed home with 12 minutes to go.
The game at Wellington Playing Fields was played on a very heavy pitch as we were in the middle of last February’s “Beast from the East” freezing conditions. Goals from Liam Wilkinson and Darragh Bustin gave Tividale a 2-0 win.
