Midweek Floodlight Cup
Round One
Tuesday 5th December 2017
Tividale 2-1 Chelmsley Town
Tividale progress in the floodlight
In a game played in freezing conditions. A few of the lads who played on Saturday would have been pleased to sit this one out as Manager Dave King rang out the changes again.
In came youth team keeper Lewis Handley, Elliott Hartley, Liam Wilkinson, Nathan Jones and Harvey Walker for Ryan Cheshire, Darragh Bustin, Dan Bryson, Freddie Watts and Dan Smith.
It was nip and tuck as neither side really took a hold of the game until Demetri Brown took his first chance and put Tividale a goal up after 14 minutes. Town should have been level after 24 minutes but Harry Sweeney could only watch as his shot hit the post. On 36 minutes they had another chance this time Tividale give away possession but Handley did well to save from Adam Keeley.
Half-time:-Tividale 1-0 Chelmsley Town
The second half started with a bang. In the 48th minute young Handley pulled off a fine save and Tividale went on the counter attack. Jones played in Hartley and his fierce drive was brilliantly parried by Town keeper James Kelly. Unfortunately for him the ball fell nicely to Joe Lawley and he made no mistake from 8 yards. The rest of the game was a sedate affair with not a lot of goalmouth action. Until deep into injury time when Ross Casey reduced the arrears with a consolation goal.
