Tividale 2-0 Wellington Amateurs
Hardworking Welly still get the boot
After last weeks heroics and Tividale’s habit of following a great performance with a not so good one. This game against the bottom of the league could have been put in the class of the ultimate banana skin and after 45 minutes it was going to the very script that the visitors feared.
After a 10 day break Tividale once again faced bottom placed Wellington Amateurs, this time in a league cup fixture and the visitors must have feared the worse after their 7 goal beating the last time they met.
As expected it was Tividale who had the majority of the possession and chances in the first half but just like the league fixture they just could not break through what looked like a much more resolute defence and the keeping of Ben Czerepaninec.
The game started as the Joe Lawley show as the midfielder had the first three Tividale chances of the half. The first on 17 minutes when his free kick was turned over the bar by Czerepaninec. Three minutes later and Lawley grazed the post with a stinging effort and then he could only watch as Czerepaninec again got down to turn his shot around the post after 26 minutes. Chris Bladen then did well to dispossess Amateurs defender Jake Lloyd on 31 minutes but fired his shot wide.
Amateurs had their first chance with 6 minutes of the half to go but Curtis Cocking did well in closing down Matt Dyke as he was about to shoot and Tividale keeper Lewis Handley blocked the eventual shot. But Tividale were immediately back on the attack with Elliott Hartley and Bladen leading the counter with Hartley’s shot well saved.
Half-time: Tividale 0-0 Wellington Amateurs
The second half was only two minutes old when Tividale got the break through. Freddie Watts sent Bladen away down the left flank and his first time cross was headed home by Nathan Jones.
For the rest of the half, although Tividale were comfortable and Amateurs never really threatened you felt that a second goal would be necessary just to make the game safe but we had to wait until the 86th minutes for it when a Lawley cross into the box was headed back across the box and substitute Darragh Bustin was left one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake.
So a comfortable victory in the end and Tividale will now face the winners of Dudley Town and Malvern Town in the quarter final’s
