Tividale 2-2 Wednesfield

Keepers keep it all square

In what can only be described as a real humdinger of a game. It would be fair to say that over the 90 minutes the draw would be a fair result. If only for the fact that neither Tividale keeper Ryan Cheshire or his counterpart Tom Whitehouse deserved to be on a losing side in this game.

It may have been due to the two week enforced weather break. But Tividale started this game very sluggishly and the new Wednesfield strike partnership of Kyle Brady and Ricardo Reid were having a lot of joy as the home side struggled to defend the long ball to the two willing front runners. The visitors could have been ahead after 3 minutes when Brady was clean through but was thwarted by a high class Joe Colley tackle and then the same player saw his shot blocked by Cheshire.

Against the run of play Tividale went ahead just two minutes later. Demetri Brown’s shot was parried away by Whitehouse and there was Dan Smith to fire home the rebound. Wednesfield immediately went down the other end and Cheshire again had to make a fine save to deny Reid.

With 20 minutes on the clock Wednesfield equalised with Scott Powell finishing off a neat move.

The action was now coming thick and fast in both areas and Whitehouse pulled off a stunning save to deny Joe Lawley and from the corner he palmed Karl Gardner’s header over his cross bar.

Half-time:-Tividale 1-1 Wednesfield

Wednesfield may have shaded the first half but their was no doubt who the dominant side were in the second.

With 10 minutes into it Whitehouse again denied Brown and 5 minutes later the visiting keeper did well to get to Curtis Cocking’s effort. On 63 minutes a Darragh Bustin cross was met by Brown, but his header was blocked and Tyree Clarke saw his shot cleared off the line.

Although under a fair bit of pressure Wednesfield were still looking lively on the counter attack and on 76 minutes Cheshire again was brought into action to deny Brady. Tividale regained the lead after 82 minutes when a ball into the Wednesfield box evaded everyone but Tom Hurdman chased it down and whipped in a cross that substitute Elliott Hartley volleyed home.

The lead would only last 5 minutes as once again Tividale were caught out by a peach of a long diagonal pass to Brady and he never even had to break stride when firing past Cheshire and into the net.
