Tividale Clubbed by Lads

 
On their first of three visits to Hereford this season Tividale were never at the races. To sum up the afternoon, they started poorly, dragged themselves back into the game but conceded late on and travelled back to the Black Country empty handed.

This game never got up to the thrill a minute that the midweek game was, and it was a scrappy disjointed opening minutes. Tividale’s Joe Lawley produced the first effort of note on 10 minutes when his strike flashed past Lads Club keepers Steven Bell’s far post.

The home side’s first chance came after they won the ball in the middle of the park and it ended when a Kiea Cowley cross was headed goal bound by striker Tom Harding but it was cleared off the line with Tividale keeper Ryan Cheshire beaten.

A minute later Lads Club took the lead when Tividale were the masters of their own downfall. From a free kick just outside the Tividale area they failed to clear their lines when they had the chance and with the visitors appealing in vain for offside Dan Herbert bundled the ball home. On 15 minutes Cowley again found Harding but this time the striker put the chance over.

Tividale were back in the game after 16 minutes when Tyree Street powered into the Lads Club box and finished well. This sparked the best period of Tividale play and they were denied the lead on 20 minutes when Bell blocked a Chris Bladen shot. 5 minutes later some neat work between Tom Hurdman and Harvey Walker ended with a Street goal bound shot that was deflected for a corner.

Lads Club had a tremendous chance to go into the break ahead when an unmarked Harding headed a Ashley Lear corner well wide.

Lads Club started the half the better of the two sides and the luckless Harding fired his first chance of the half into the side netting and then saw his next shot saved by Cheshire. On the hour mark Darragh Bustin forced Bell into his first save of the half. But Lads Club were soon back on the front foot, but Lear could not keep his shot down.

A couple of Tividale changes gave them a little impetus and the two subs Elliott Hartley and Chris Bladen nearly gave them the lead. But Bladen headed Hartley’s cross over. Street then failed to beat Bell with a shot after good work from Hartley.

Lads Club were still wasteful in front of goal and Alex Lancet, Herbert, Lear and Cowley all had chances to put the home side ahead. They were almost punished when a Hurdman cross was met by Bladen but his effort cleared the bar and landed on the top of the net.

Lads Club retook the lead on 84 minutes when substitute Steve Dixon’s deep cross was met at the back post by Harding and he made no mistake with his header.

On the stroke of full time Tividale were the width of the post from conceding a third when a mix up between Hurdman and goalkeeper Cheshire resulted in the keeper being left in no mans land after the defender tried to guide the ball back to him and it bounced wide of the post.
